‘Over 10,000 new multipurpose PACS registered nationwide’

Srinagar, Jul 28 (KNO): The Government of India (GoI) on Tuesday informed the Lok Sabha that Jammu and Kashmir has 708 functional Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), while Ladakh has 10, according to the National Cooperative Database (NCD) as of July 15, 2026. Replying to a question raised by Bijuli Kalita Medhi, Union Minister for Cooperation Amit Shah, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said there are 1,12,895 PACS across the country, of which 1,07,457 are functional. He also informed the House that 10,225 new multipurpose PACS (M-PACS) have been registered nationwide since the Government approved the plan in February 2023 to establish cooperative societies in every panchayat and village. The minister said the Centre has also launched a Central Sector Project for computerisation of PACS to improve governance, transparency and operational efficiency. According to the data placed before Parliament, 708 PACS in Jammu and Kashmir have been onboarded under the computerisation programme, while 537 have received hardware, been onboarded on the ERP platform and have become e-PACS. In Ladakh, all 10 approved PACS have received hardware and have been onboarded on the ERP platform, while four have been converted into e-PACS. Amit Shah further informed the House that the National Cooperation Policy, 2025 is being implemented through a whole-of-government approach. He said the Ministry of Cooperation has already taken 152 initiatives under the policy and has advised all States and Union Territories, including Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, to formulate their own cooperation policies in line with the national framework—(KNO)
